Founder story

I built Xpens because of a conversation I had with a Lagos business owner who had been running her company for 4 years and had never seen a proper profit margin.

She was working 14-hour days.
Her business was growing.
And she had no idea if she was actually making money.

That conversation changed everything.

I spent 3 months talking to 40+ Nigerian business owners. The pattern was always the same:

Incredible hustle. Zero financial systems.

Excel spreadsheets. WhatsApp expense groups. Paper receipts in shopping bags. Invoices chased for weeks. Tax penalties from missed deadlines. Clients owing millions while payroll day sits two days away.

None of the existing tools solved this. QuickBooks was built for America. Sage was built for corporations. Nobody was building for how Nigerian business actually works.

So through Careerlinkk Digital Ventures Ltd, I built Xpens — not a copy of a Western product, but a product from scratch for Nigerian reality:

• Where business runs on WhatsApp.
• Where Paystack is the payment rail.
• Where PAYE is not a W-2.
• Where GTBank matters more than Chase.

Xpens is the product I wish existed when I started my first business. We are building in public from Lagos — shipping weekly, talking to operators, and treating every setback as signal.
